Maybe one of his mods eliminate the high frequency sound that you hear when you hit an empty pad.
Let me know if you find any info on what he did. _________________ Akai MPC60, Emu SP1200, Akai MPC2000, Akai MPC2000XL SE1, Kurzweil K2000rs, Ensoniq EPS, Ensoniq ASR10, Ensoniq EPS16+, Novation Bass Station, Roland S330, Akai S3000XL, Roland JV1080, Boss SP202, Roland MC50, Akai S950, Roland W30

i've been emailing the fellow here is what he did for the sp 1200
Fix/improve the reliability
-re-soldering (all ! )
-replace defected /lo reliable (w/aging) all parts
--Regulator (into Japanese high reliable type)
--Electrolytics (into audio grade)
--LCD Display
--Linear Faders
--all IC sockets (into high reliable type)
Sound Improvement (Analog/Audio part)
-replace all OPAmps (into lo noise/high grade type)
-replace all Capacitors (into film/audio grade type)
-replace all Resistors (into lo-noise metal film type)
-replace Offset trim of A/D D/A (into high definition type)
*several trims were removed
Cure the problem of original (defected design)
-remove all Tantal capacitors used as decoupling
(Tantal should be close/short mode defect)
replace into Electrolytics (open/non-short mode defect)
-clean & improve all switches contact (w/o dynamic SW)
-DC/DC frequency change (improve/cure the switchng noise )
-additional Regulator noise filter
-Oscillation of Outut Volume cure (so bad design)
If you ever wanted someone to go through you sp or 808 This would be the guy! _________________ E-mu Emulator Sampler Series Forum

if i had to guess i would say it would sound like a new machine, but with better/superior components. I'm guessing this would make it sound better then a regular new sp from when they where first manufactured
also all the buttons / pads / sliders / lcd display would be new
it would also be more reliable because there are new & better ic sockets, caps etc.
I would bet it could go 25 years without having any issues
literally no detail is over looked from what i can see in his restoration _________________ E-mu Emulator Sampler Series Forum
