USB port on my SP1200?

I just have this crazy idea of putting an USB port on my SP1200 so i can connect the SP1200 directly to my Mac in OSX and enter the SP1200's memory banks that way... imagine... just dragging samples from- and- to your SP1200!!!
I'm no technician myself but i figure it should be possible... is there anybody out there who can make my dreams come true?

whut???

why is my good idea removed to the kiddie corner?

you can transfer samples through MIDI with Alchemy on OS9...
DAMN! who wants to work woth OS9 these days..
and if you do... it always has bugs that annoy the hell out of you.

it is time for new SP1200 sample transfer software...

MIDI is slow and always trouble so i vote for USB!

whats teh big need to transfer sounds back and forth anyway?
usb on a sp just sounds completely redic i def had to move this topic over here.

for one, editing and truncating samples goes much faster, easier and preciser on the mac with an audio editor.

and on my mac i have a huge drumkit archive... if i want to load a beat into my SP1200... i just select the beats i want and transfer it to the SP1200.

i'm just tired of the OS9 - MIDI hassle. It gives me problems every time. Why is there no good SP1200 librarian for OSX?

As far as USB is concerned, a firewire port will do nicely aswell Wink
I bet it will look lovely on the back of the SP1200.

I think sampling and trimming sounds is really fast on the SP, and I don't think I would save a lot of time dumping to computer edit there and then dump back again.

And just converting existing sounds from computer may loose the charming sound of the 1200? I have not tried converting and dumping other sounds, so I don't know how it sounds.

I can't really see how you could put a USB on the SP1200 when people can't even get USB "floppy drives" instead of the existing floppy drive.

true, you can edit and trim samples really fast on the SP but as i said... it goes more precice and faster on the mac.

you won't lose the charming sound of the sp... in fact.. transferring sounds from your computer makes the sp1200 even sound fatter!

i tried it with a breakbeat that i recorded on the sp1200 and the same one from the mac.

as you can see at the many topics, there are a lot of users working this way.

A USB connection for a floppydrive is something else as a USB connection to use with MIDI... but ok. forget the USB port. What i'm after is a good editor/librarian for OSX. i would be happy if it would work with MIDI. I will make a new post for that.

I think its that lack of precision that make a beat sound more human. Sure it also depend on timing of the machine, how you sampled (sample threshold settings) the sample itself (attack phase of the sample)

But hey, you can do whatever you want. I dont know a way to USB mod a 1200 sorry.

Bounce, have you tried editing in your computer, pitch up then play out through your audio outs into your SP - quick and easy, best of both worlds in a sense.

Just need to trim to end point to save SP time.

^This is how I work. TT SPDIF > PC > SP-1200. I don't have a mixer or any other gear right now besides an SP and a TT. I filter ,EQ and Pitch shift on the PC before sampling. For me it's a good workflow.
