the s950 is a killer outboard distortion unit!

alot of people wish they could use an s950 as a pass through effect to get samples fat and lo fi and of course you cant. but one thing i discovered about the unit on accident is that it can dial in some dope saturation if you pass through it.

try running a loop through it or whatever, just crank the rec input and trim back the monitor to dial in some distortion on the channel. at the right setting, it gives a really killer smooth saturation, alot like what you get out of driving a nice preamp hard. its a nice option to have for re-amping stuff through since its not as harsh as something like a distortion pedal and its thicker than a cheap preamp.
thx

it seems similar to the "buzz trick" on vestax mixers: if you plug an rca/jack  cable, connected to a line in on the mixer, to the headphones out and crank up the volume of the headphones you'll obtain a distorted buzz similar to a synth square wave but i know it could damage the headphones preamp...
so i think it could burn also the monitor preamp on the s950...
please, tell me if i'm wrong

hmmm...i suppose it could potentially damage the monitor preamp. at the sime time, it sounds best when not fully cranked, just a touch so it might not be pushing it too hard.
