sp restoration/customization...

I just copped a fuked up broken and ugly 1200 last week. Fixed the ps, installed new floppy, put in a new backlight and painted it silver, just got done yesterday. Still gotta work on the internals cause it does weird shit after about an hour of use. Metronome bleed and weird distortion but I'll get to that soon... For now I'm still rockin the 12 Turbo. here's some pics:

and it actually looked worse, I pulled off some stickers and tape before i snapped this

Deta!L

that's doope man! very nice, I saw that one on Ebay, what'd you pay for it?
goldenmean

nice job that looks dope! i usually like to keep old gear og looking if i can so im not into customizing so much (im down with stickers though) but that poor sp was looking pretty bad before hand. it looks like it says 'rest in peace my nigga' in black magic marker lol!
rokuez

rhythmonster  do you have any other pics in between those two ones chronologically speaking?
Deck Daddy

You can just use the metronome output on it and hook that to you mixer too. When you plug a cable (or just a plug) in the metro out, it disappears from the main mix and everything else just like all of the 1-8 outs.

Good job!
RHYTHM MONSTER

Thanks for checking it out yall...

@Supreme

I made a template in open office and used waterslide decal paper for the lettering.

@Deta!L

3 or 350 I can't remember

@rokuez

theres not many but I'll post em up

@Deck Daddy

thanks for the tip I'll try that out
RHYTHM MONSTER

After I got all the crap off the front

I drilled out these holes so I didn't have to mask them

mad props.  really gettin ya hands dirty. waht they say? it really aint your car unless you built it wit ya hands...  now you prob gota couple more headaches under the hood but that shit has really come a long way.  let us know how the paint n decals hold up over time.
Deta!L

damn duke, $350!

you came up on that one my man
RHYTHM MONSTER

The decals should hold up cause i hit them with clear coat but I have to recommend if anybody is gonna use decals like this weather it's for lettering a beat machine or whatever use the laser printer. I used it before for a 60 and it came out dam nice. The laser paper is ready to go right after you print, this inkjet shit has you clear coat the ink on after printing. It's not as nice as it could be... At some point I might redo it but no time soon.
RHYTHM MONSTER

Also, this machine is crazy. I think maybe it was a long time before it was on again so it's kind of cranky. I hadn't even touched it in like a week and yesterday I went to turn it on and it asked for the disk but no sound from the drive like normal. Tried a couple more times, nothing. Later in the day I tried again and it was fine, ended up playing with it for like 5-6 hours and shit was flawless, no metronome bleed or any type of wierdness. I'll keep yall posted if i start fucking around on the inside again but for now it seems to be allgood.
Deta!L

so you just printed that shit on your computer? onto what? what size font etc.?

where did you get whatever you printed it on?

aiiight then  Cool
DFACE DXA

shes just a cranky bitch from bein mistreated.  she dont even know how to act now that shes cleaned up.

hi,

that looks fucking killer.
so you printed the lettering on laser printer decal paper (like old school model kits? ) then u soak it in water and adhere correct?  then if you so wish (or need) apply automotive clear coats for gloss and durability correct?

thanks!!!!!

I finally got myself an SP yesterday and I couldn't be happier. The face plate needs some work though. I don't know if you can tell but most of the gloss (Is that what you call it?) has been stripped away. It's also missing some lettering.

Just curious...has anyone done anything to their SP lately? I was thinking about getting some white colored buttons.

Rhythm, would you mind reposting those pics of yours?
RHYTHM MONSTER

no problem, I'm going to redo mine sometime over the winter with a different color scheme just to change shit up and I'll take more pics of that too. Yours looks really good though despite losing it's gloss. You might just hit it with some clear coat to try to keep what you've got. Personally I like the OG look the best but mine was so nasty I had to go custom.

I wonder if the SP1200 LED's could be changed for a different color?  Are they standard 3mm?  I've never opened one up so I am just asking blind questions here.

I wonder how Forat does his graphics?  I asked once, and he kinda gave me an elusive answer, and he said that they have all the equipment since they used to manufacture drum-machines back in the day.

I wonder if the sp1200 case could actually be re manufactured?  I love the look of raw aluminum, or polished aluminum.  Not in a chrome kinda look, but like the brushed matte silver look.   I'm just spit-ballin here, but but bear with me..

If I have to I guess I'll use some clear coat but it would be such a contrast. I'm wondering if there is a way I can achieve the original gloss effect.

RHYTHM, did you happen to get your backlight from crystalfontz.com? If so, could you possibly point out which size screen I would need to get and the color that bests fits that of the original stock color.

Thanks

@ Px 7

yeah the leds can def be changed - when i brought mine the previous owner had put in blue ones...

will post some pics when I get a sec

I asked Forat how much it would be to regloss my SP and they want $700!

Not sure what I'm going to do now.
RHYTHM MONSTER

Does it chip away when you use it? If your lettering is staying on then maybe just leave it. If you can successfully remove the plastic cover off then you could probably take it to a sign shop type place and have them laminate it then glue it back on.

No, it's not chipping away. The lettering is staying on although the E-mu Systems, Inc. is missing and I would like to have that put on. I'll see if I can take it to a shop.

Thanks

A tip to you and ALL Sp users !

If your Sp is behaving strangely when it getīs warm open it up and check that all screws that hold the drumpad/slider board is in place and tightened.

My Sp got crazy with the LEDīs when i bought it, it was a missing screw !

RHYTHM, you still happen to have that template?
RHYTHM MONSTER

Probably, I'll try to dig that up by the end of the weekend.
