Sampling SP1200

I've read prior posts to this but would like clarification. Do I need a pre-amp seperate from the mixer on my turntable? I thought the mixer was a pre-amp? If so what pre-amp would work best for sampling from a turntable? Do you go turntable to pre-amp to mixer to Sp1200? Because when I try from my mixer now, everything goes through as it's supposed to I'm just not hearing anything when I try to play it back. Also nothing is registering on the VU meter when I try to set it. Any help would be much appreciated and sorry if this is a constant question.

mixer as in mixing board or dj mixer. dj mixer has phono pre amps.

Sampling SP1200

Well maybe I'm having another issue then. When I go the sampling direc tions in the manual, some things don't seem to work like when I try to set the VU meter levels for when it bangs into the red when I play the break or whatever it doesn't register. Which setting 00db, 20db, 40db should I be at? Why does it ask, in sample mode which channel output I want or does that matter? I assign the button to go to A1 or whatever and whether I arm the sample or force it, when I go back to segment mode, I can't hear anything. Do I need to save the sample first before I hear it? Anybodies thoughts would be helpful

Seen.

I think I'm getting you now. You're talking about sampling levels, not playback levels. But are you getting playback through your mixer? You shouldn't need pre amps for sampling. The 00dB setting is for LINE LEVEL signals (your mixer is an example). The +20dB is for amplified instruments and +40dB for dynamic mics. This is a rule of thumb but you can rock either setting and trim the gain to achieve the VU setting you need.

Setting the output channel before you sample will not bypass the MIXOUT (unless you have a 1/4" coming out of that channel) on playback so as long as the MIXOUT is connected to your mixer - you should be good. But this is where your playback levels need to be checked on your mixer. The SP should be going into the LINE IN of your mixer.

Finally, you must remember that the SP is mono and your mixer most likey stereo so make sure you are using the right cable ends.

But yo, why don't you just stick your headphones in the Sample IN - set it to +40dB - Speak into your headphones and try to get a signal. Then listen back sticking your headphones through the MIX OUT. If you still can't get playback I would say there is an internal issue.
