s950 got broke and scarred during shippingI bought a s950 from some f*** german guy, you know what he did? He did the shittiest job ever preparing a vintage 9Kilo unit (s950) for shipment!!
pics how it got here:
On ebay it looked perfect with a great faceplate no marks whatsoever.
After it got here heres what happened:
*Front bezel of diskdrive got broke and its dead, doesnt load samples just rattles.
*It can sample but theres no output just a little sound when i wiggle the cable.
Im so worked up right im planning to go over his house to do whatever. Hes a motor fan so he likes speed and adreneline. I can give hime some. Buyer protection on friggin Ebay doesnt mean shyt. Seller never answered to my claim on Paypal and paypal (though shouldve decided in my favor if the seller didnt answer) now refuses to give me a refund while they had his auction on "buyer protection program up to 1000euro using paypal". The seller has an empty account, and paypal doesnt want to give me a refund, case closed. BURN Paypal en Ebay! If you know someone whos works at paypal, hit him for me. Ill pay you for it. It will cost me to fix this.

Take it apart and look for any loose cables.
Any lack of sound could be the vol pot in front broken (all audio goes through it to control volume on all the akai's I've seen before the S5000) don't quote me on the S5K, I'd have to look at mine.
The floppy drives of that era are actually pretty rugged and can take a fairly lethal beating. Remove the drive and take the cover off. take a spare disk and make sure it seats properly with hte heads landing on the disk and sitting flat on the media. If you lack patients and mechanical ability better not try it, but most people should be able to get that far. The bezel has little impact to the disk mechanism and operations on 90% of the drives. The biggest issue is disks sticking in the door flap or the button mechanism sticking. Keep any cleaners away and only use good quality Q-tips to clean dust and grime out of the metal area's. It's Ok to add White lithium grease sparingly to the places that "shown sign of prior lube"
