On the turbo (soon on the 1200) I up pitch all my samples all the way to max. I did an estimation a while back that this gave me about 13 of actual sample time on the turbo (a 5 second machine).

i imagine you, like some other producers with such limitations, use 78 rpm on turntable - the only problem with that is you can only pitch down -8 from original. i guess?

I use a stanton t80 that does +/- 12% so I can get there on the 78rpm but the pitch drifts all over the place so I sample to the the computer pitch it up 16 real quick, sample to the sp and keep moving. I don't waste any time saving samples or anything in the computer I just use it to pitch or eq. Then save the finished beat to the computer when im done.

definitely a great way to get shit into the SP. you can also use MIDI dump to transfer samples to the SP from an old MAC.

Your italics are on
But to get back to your question, I think even pitching up doesn't mean you are getting more sample time. It just means you can now fit a few more beats from a sample into one pad. Its still 2.5 seconds maximum per pad.
cheers.

The general trick is to up pitch the record and down pitch the sample on the Sp, like mentioned above.
And if you use INIT DK/Tune you can get like almost 20 second loops (Dface thanks for the tip!).
pretty wild machine

lol, too late!
But you should think the positive side things:
the value of your Sp just went up
plus I'm all about sharing the knowledge (except records)

some cats won't buy an SP cause they can't use long loops:)
i know ppl like that...and then they wonder "hmmm..pete rock had longer samples than 2.5 sec."

So if I want another SP1200 I have to pay even more... Positive???

No, but the Sp you own its value will go up also, so that will compensate your new purchase.
And now that youve seen the trick what you need a new Sp for?

I won't sell my SP. It's too fly for that. I use it daily now. It's my favorite piece of gear, the last I'd get rid of.
I would get another SP because the SP is a superdope machine, but a super unstable machine technical wise, a lot of bugs may happen in a few more years.
I don't like to MIDI up machines anyways, and I'm fine with the sampling time available.
