Is it normal to get a slight bleed of the metronome and a channel that is being used as a seperate out into the main mix out? Also while using the machine today it started adding an abrupt tail to the end of samples inconsistently?

If you make a song out of your segments you will get rid of the metronome leak. The metronome is completely off in song mode.

I have not been listening so careful to leaking from channels yet, so I don't know how normal that is.

Have you run the test? Hold Set-Up while powering the unit on. In one of the tests it should say

My friends SP1200 was set at another number than 804, so it got more clicks at the beginning and end of the samples. We opened the unit up and trimmed RT1 to 804 (almost trimmed the RT11 by mistake too!)
It's another thread on that issue, if that's the issue...
