memory issue on sp12 turboHi
got my sp12 about 7 months ago, everything went great so far, clean the buttons according to forum faq's, made a few beats.
today I turn it on, first thing I notice : a question mark instead of the last number of tempo, then, weird fax sounds coming out of the sp. no more sounds, no more sequences, i'm about to go crazy ...
I've checked memory and nothing's left, zero for sounds and sequences.
It seems I need to change the battery but I'm not sure though,
do these problems sound familiar to anyone ?
thanks
Julian

never heard of that. sounds like satan has chosen to reside in your sp for the time being.

I sent you a PM.
I don't have a SP-12 service manual. But I think there so similar it's not a issue.
Check the voltages of the PSU, in the link I sent you there is some troubleshooting steps and diagnostics tests, run those and let us know whats not working and we can go from there.

thanks kasper
I'm downloading it right now.
I have the sp12 owner's manual but it doesn't mention anything regarding maintenance.
sorry but what PSU stands for ?
--> Ok power supply unit
Something new came up
when I try to record, the sp reboots (all the lights turn on and the lcd displays name, version and date of fabrication)
Anyone ever had to replace the battery on the sp12 ??

Not that it may not be the battery (is there one for sure?) most likely it's a power issue or a component is flaking out.
There is really only an limited amount of failures in electronic equipment.
I'd start by looking at the PSU and checking voltage with a DMM (Digital Multi Meter) or plan on taking it to a shop that specializes in vintage equipment, preferably synths.
Taking stuff thike a SP-12 to a repair shop specializing in Gtr amps is not going to be efficient. It will probably cost you some money and you get something that don't work still back.
Ask on Gear sluts and Prodigy-pro DIY for help, I'm on there too and you may find someone local who can help you.
Cheers,
Kaz

this battery enables sp to save datas when it's off,
but I might as well be stg else because the sp is displaying all kinds of crazy stuff.
well, I'm gonna try to find a place to fix it and in the meantime check those other websites.
thanks for helping kazper.

I had a couple SP12's and I don't remember the samples staying in memory when I powered it down. The Sp12 has sounds in Rom that you can replace with Ram sounds.
I'd think that if it did have memory it would be for settings if anything, but I could be wrong.

I've just checked on Emulator archive,
the battery in the sp12 is only here for ram samples and songs,
so even if the battery ran out, I could still play the rom samples (banks 1,2,3) and use the sp normally I guess.

I have actually heard of cases where a dead battery messed with other things.
Open it up and make sure all of the eproms are seated in their sockets firmly.

thanks for the tip,
a problem with eproms would explain a lot of things, cause sounds are coming out, but weird sounds, and I can't record anything, so I'm gonna check those.
