i just copped my first SP-12...sorry D i should have posted this in the New Jack Questions.... but here is the problem, it powers up & in the tiny little screen says SP-12 Turbo Ver 2.4 1/31/86, then it says Song 01 255.? i'm pressin buttons & there is no sound, it also came w/ a commmadore 154i floppy drive... so where do i go from here??? should i send it stright to a repair shop???

make sure the audio is connnected 1/4in mono from the mix out
try pressing setup then 14
turn dynamic buttons off
then press bank 1 2 or 3 and hit a pad with a preset sound.

aight D i followed the steps you gave me:
now this is the result:
on the lcd screen it say's : Dyn Buttons? NO (yes/no)
i press no & on the lcd screen is still asking me the question, i press enter & it is asking me again :Set-up function (11-23)
i go through bank 1 & press all the buttons 1-8 : there is slight static when i'm pressin the buttons but no drum sounds.
i go through bank 2, samething except on button 6 there is buzz sound(like that game operation) while that is going, i press button 7 & it stops the buzz sound on button 6
bank 3 gets the same result as bank 1
originally the cat was sellin this to me for $600, but he could not get it to work, he felt bad so he let it go for $200... but i think he knew already that it didn't work... so now i might just have to send it out for repair, but it's all good... & this thing gets hot like a mofo...

well the light show trick is workin!!! blinkin red lights. . . . . . . . anymore trouble shootin tips???

Do you got any other samplers man? Or you just rockin that shit alone

if you get no sounds out of the sp when yuo hit the preset pads there could be a problem. ill look some shit up for you.

thanks D, i just checked the diagnostics that essence or somebody posted on here, it says also that the presets can be erased, i dunno... maybe i should try samplin into it??? or the voices are gone cause the analog filterchips are dundee & hard to find... but i don't like what i hear when i pressin them buttons...static noise as i mentioned earlier... if worst comes to worst i can always sell it for parts or somethin, there's always someone lookin for one around here...

well, a little bit of good news... there's a vintage electronic repair shop in LA that i contacted that repairs emu's, akai's & all that good stuff... but damn one hundred dollars for a deposit, then one hundred dollars an hour depending on the repair, plus shippin it there to LA... i could of heard her wrong though but still, that just burns like hell...

yeah you shuold try n reset the memory for all seq n sound. somebody might have put samples over the stock sounds

ok D, we followed the steps & it did reset
& this what came up on the screen:
Memory Remaining
SEQ 100 % SND 5.0s
we heard the metronome when we pressed run/stop
but when we pressed & held down the record/edit button & the run/stop button at the same time the light lit up only on the record/edit button, on the manual it stated that both lights should be lit...
turned off the machine & re-did it again but this time we didn't hear the metronome when we pressed the run/stop...
we're gonna run more test...

oooh got the same problem overhere
Got my sp-12 today.
When I hit record+start/stop the lights on these buttons wont lit and
the sp-12 just wont record when I play the stock saounds.
(That hihat is beautiful though, I'm a drummer and that hihat
on the sp sounds just like when hitting a stick on a real hihat. Nice.)
