hi all.

looking to hopefully get pointed in the right direction to either pay for a real copy of drum file or get a copy from someone. (do they even still make it?)

i know waters edge still sells the librarian -thats in process of being aquired. but the drum file would be nice to convert formats. (if i can find it..)

does anyone use drum file? and if so, any info (or if the companie's defunt ), a copy on a mac 3.5 floppy would be dope.

excuse my ignorance- i havent heard of this before-what is it and whats it for- is it the sp-s standard drum sound disks or am i guessing wrong?

From what I can gather it's a programme that lets you transfer files between an old Mac & your SP12, I'd love to have it running under an emulator.

I found one of the original programmers on linkedin and messaged him about opening the source code so that we could port it/ upgrade it/ whatever and never heard back from him. It's probably likely he doesn't even have it. Maybe a good thing to do is to track down the other people from that company and try to call and ask just to get to the bottom of it. I think it was a very small company and all their shit could be trash by now, auctioned off and sitting in some assholes basement or in a storage unit of an original employee, who knows. It's crazy though how this is always brought up but nobody has ever seen it for sale on ebay or being shared or anything.

It's atrange because most things are out there somewhere, but Drum File really does seem to be vapourware... Shame really as it's a bit of SP12 History that has vanished.

I have an original floppy disk with SP Drum File Version 1.1a or b. It only runs on old classic macs, 68k based. I tried copying the disk but all my efforts have not worked. The copies always show an error stating that it is not an authorize copy and exits the program.

How did you try to copy? You could try to make an imagefile of the floppy.
The software Omniflop mighty be helpful for this.
In this case "keepin the history alive" goes over copyright IMO.

I have tried Omniflop and many other image applications none of them work. Omniflop damaged one of my original Mac floppies and therefore I am unwilling to try it on this disk, since it is the only one I have. I tried using some of the best floppy backup applications I could find on the internet for my MacSE/30 which is connected to the SP12 Turbo, but it did not work. It took me a long time to find someone which was willing to sell the SP12 Drum File disk. Initially I was just trying make a copy of the disk so that I didn't have to buy it, but after so many dead ends. I decided to just buy it from that person. What are you guys trying to use it on? This software does not work in any Classic Mac Emulators. You need an old classic mac with the Motorola 68K CPUs. I know that the SP12 Librarian can work with PowerPC based macs as long as they have the Serial Connectors for the MIDI interface. I believe this floppy disk is using one of the best copy protection schemes in use during the 1980's.

I thought the same thing. Trust me, I have made many Back-Up copies of protected disks in Mac Classic systems and the disk that got damaged was permanently copy protected by the publisher of the software. The write protect tab thing was removed by the software company. I have used Omniflop to made copies of MPC, Atari ST and other older formats.

Does anybody know of a good copy program for the Mac Systems 6.x-7.1? The ones I have used are CopyIIMac and DiskDup+, and a few others that I cant recall since its been a while.
