disk read error

I got a grey faced SP-1200. First time I've used it, it was working fine.
Second time, I insert a disk then the display show me " disk read error".
What does that means. Do I need to start up with the OS disk (that I don't have), or is the floppy drive damaged...? If I need an OS disk, from where I can get one? Many thanks for infos + best regards
thx

try with other disks if you have any another. if the first time your sp worked maybe it means that the disk is damaged. when you format a disk with the sp the machine save all is in the memory and the OS. at the end of formatting session the sp ask you if you want to save the software (OS). i save the software in every disk i format.

I don't even think you have to perform the "save software" task: I only do the format task, and that way the O.S. is stored onto the disk.

Before if I got "disk error" message it was a bad floppy, but later on the floppy drive started to die on me, and everything I tried to do, save or load, was a "disk error". I changed the drive to my old MPC2000XL drive and now it's no disk errors, and I can use HD disks without tape on the hole  Very Happy

Also try rotating the disk (the little round steel bit on the back) afraction of a turn with your finger, then re-try it in the disk drive. seems to cure it when I have this prob.

I'm having the same problem. I jut bought a brand new pack of disks and I still get this message. I have only one disk that has worked so far.  Mad
