Cartridges/needlesThought this could be a good topic to discuss now that my current needle is dying out slowly.
Anyone have insight what needle would be good just for
sampling to Sp? It should be clear at the high end and not too bass heavy.
Well somethings that good for drums obviously. And not too expensive either.
Thanks.

Well if you are sampling from vinyl, then a 0.007" standard microgroove is fine. If you want to replace the cart, then I would suggest a Shure M44-7. It has a better bass response probably owing to its weight. For coarsegroove 78's, you can go for a 2.8 or 3.5 elliptical truncated but its really going to depend on the disc manufacturer and time and place of press as everyone had their own patented "standards" back then.

Oh, ok. I think I'll get a new stylus for my M 447 and another cartridge just for sampling.
Maybe a ortofon 2M red or shure m 97 xe...?
