a new jack need some advice...are there any basic practices to improve timing?

just try different rhythm's and shit
none of that south crunk crap tho, that just shows that all you can do is hold some type of timing correct and hold a pad

You should pick songs you like with different drum patterns and try to imitate them as close as you can.
