12bit Purist or Hybrid?Sup SP heads,
How many of you guys use just the SP or hardware samplers when making music?
Or do you combine the SP with software or synthesisers? (Any tips?)
I guess this all depends on the type of track your producing, is everybody a hip hop head, or do we have some peeps who produce other genres here?
Peace

Hey DFACE,
Do you track the synth into your DAW or resample into the 950 or the like?

i normally sample it into a hardware sampler when im done. sometimes i will have the beat tracked out in the daw from the machine already and will track the soft synth into the daw

Thanks for your answers. Going to have to try resampling into the 950 tonight!

Purist.
I track everything to tape. It stays analogue that way. Convert the 2 track mix to digital when its final. Rarely use post processing. What you hear is what you get.

Yo Drinks,
What inch tape do you use?
My mates got a 1/4 inch machine but I haven't had a chance to use it yet.
Can you tell me what kind of sound tape imparts on your mixes?

1/4" Agfa PEM 468. My machine is aligned for that (Revox PR-99).
Basically, if your machine isn't aligned properly, you won't get the best from tape and may add more noise than you expect. But if its all calibrated right, you can really hit it hard and bring out the harmonic distortion which gives a more musical, rounded sound to your recordings. I highly recommend analogue recording.
