"Infinite Sustain" for drumloops on SP12?couldn't find answer in the FAQ, so forgive the newbie question.
here goes:
SP12 Turbo OS2.6
- Sampled a few bars of a drumloop off vinyl.
- Went to Truncate/Loop to try to get it to loop "infinitely," as the owner's manual promises (pg 60)
- Set my start & end and loop points to the bars of the sampled drumloop.
- Play back the sound and get a perfect repeating loop for a few seconds...then it fades away.
- Played with decay settings etc, but it always fades.
Is this as "infinite" as the sustain gets on the SP?
Is the real/better way to do this to lock the drumloop tempo to the SP's tempo and retrigger the drumloop sample at the first beat of the SP's bar?

yeah its not a loop feature to play thru sequences. its to make your samples longer. i think thats a decent explanation someone else feel free to expand if needed. i dotn really ever use teh loop function. for some random things you can get cool shit tho not to completely sleep on it.

..you cant loop drum loops that way. thats more of a decay effect for the tails of samples to carry over. i dont think most folks use it alot, but it can be nice once in a while. it works best when you use it on atmospheric sounds.
if you want to loop a drum loop. truncate the beginning tight and leave a little space at the end, play it with the pad, and tap the tempo to get a ballpark of what bpm it is. then either step or manually place it at the 1 on the sequencer and play the sequence. that is what loops the sound.
then start doing this in more complex ways.

thanks. I ended up doing something along what you guys suggested:
recording a sequence at a slow tempo, with the truncated loop on the first step of the sequence, bass on the one and hat in 16ths.
I then increased the tempo until the SP's sequence best-aligned with the loop. couldn't get it absolutely perfect (need to do a better job truncating the loop), but it made me appreciate being able to adjust tempo in 0.1 steps.
more practice...
