S950 audio connect issue....  Reply with quote

Hello everybody, nice nice forum.

I have just hands on an s950, its my first play on an akai sampler of any sort (i normally use a casio fz-1, dirty and piss easy to use). I seem to be ok following stuff in the manual and getting sounds out (altho why i must 2.5x the bandwidth to work out  sample freq is dumb, why not just do it normally) My issue is that i only get sound out of my righthand monitor no matter where i plug into on the back. I know its a mono sampler so i may have to split the right channel to hear both monitors. But if thats the case what is the point of having split output levels on the front because only one of them does anything.
I hope i'm just being a dick, or do i have a problem?
Cheers, Justin

Yea i tried them an still odd. I can have sound out of one or the other or both if i hit enough keys on the keyboard. There was a page i found with ouput info on it with something like L(9) R(10) if i set it 9 its L out and 10 right, but never both. It's os version 1.2 if that makes any diff?

You mean middle as in 12 o clock? Well the 950 seems quite a quiet machine so both left and right are up full. The  right makes a difference
if moved but the other does not. I would like to pick you brains a little about the sp1200 too (your gonna wish you never ok'd my registration....joke)

Ok ok, i have done some tests keeping every thing as simple and straight forward as poss.
1 monitor and 2 leads (1 balanced 1 unbalanced)
The sampler was plugged directly into the monitor (no middle man interface to confuse matters.

I have connected them every which way but loose, testing output routing and everything. And have sort of concluded this, the L and R outputs are for creating a psuedo stereo effect but require 2 samples routed to 9 and 10 to do it..?? The mix output is odd if routed to 0 (all) then only L volume control will work, unless routed to output 10, then only right volume control works but never both, Meh.

So after this i assume that if i want to just learn this sampler without the use of a mixing desk (routing seprate outs to respective mixer channels), i must need to make a Y cable or make a mono sum channel in my audio interface.
Please please does this make sense because i am sick of the bloody amen brother break, and kind of loosing patience with this sampler.

Any help, clarification or questions greatly recieved.

How yo get it coming out of both monitors? Sampling in is fine, getting sound out is the problem. Do you get sound out of the left and right outputs at the same time?

you should be able to plug your monitors into the stereo outs in the back.  make sure your output knob on the front is centered.  if your not going sound out of both speakers, one of your outs is probably messed up.  i had this problem on my 60

Ah ok thanks. Strange thing is though, i can get sound out of it but to do so i must asign the sample to that output. It appears you can have one or the other but not both. Btw how did you fix the mpc (cost alot?)

i have that problem too:
L and R outputs only work one at a time, i mean both are working (i've tested the 2 channels and they work) but i can't hear the two channels togheter.  Crying or Very sad
Maybe i've sampled only a channel (R) i still don't understand what kind of input is the line in in the front panel. it is a mono or a stereo input?
thanx a lot
