Now you can better notate your segments in HIRES mode...
So many people have hit me up about the broken link. I deeply apologize. My external hard drive crashed and I lost the original file. However, I updated this shit, finally, and it looks better than ever. Though the last version was a bit more descriptive. I may update and revise the layout once more by the end of the year.
first go to quantize and set to hi-res - this means no quantization.
HiRes mode, Steps 1-24, Beats 1-4
You basically note the pad name on each line, depending on where your samples fall in the sequence. ie - m1.bt1.1 = A1, B3, C2
Here is a quick example of a simple drum sequence. I use first initials and numerics to refer to my kicks, snares, and hats, etc. ie - k0 = soft kick, k1 = hard kick, s1 = snare, h1 = hi-hat, oh1 = open hat. I only show the location of the samples used in the first measure.
The reason I created this is for building complex drum or bass sequences and for sequencing percussion - ie sleighbells, tambourines, bongos, congas, and tom drum fills. It also provides an instant visual map for programming various types of grooves: hip-hop patterns or funk patterns, rock patterns, reggae, house, techno, drum and bass, etc. Let's say you really liked the way you sequenced the 16th note hi-hat pattern from a previous song, but you don't want to have to load up the disk and figure out what you did to make the shit groove so nicely. You just pull out a copy of this sheet containing your hi-hat or pad notation and re-program the SP with the new hi-hat samples, matching the old pattern. You can even tweak it to fit the new tempo. Just print out another sheet and notate the pad names and their location within the measure. This works with virtually any style of music. BADA-BING-BADA-BOOM!

AY YO!!..
Just a little after-the-fact suggestion. Maybe you could make a revised version that incorporates the associated timing values (1/8th, 1/16th, etc.). For me the concept is pretty straightforward as far as 1/8th notes falling on '13', etc. But, as I've learned from trying to explain the 'ppqn' concept to people..it doesn't click with everybody off top.
The 'hi-res' step editing method is def. very useful..but I think the chart (or an enhanced version) could be a touch more helpful with 'at a glance' timing references. Good work though..not trying to hijack whatsoever.

great input...though not sure what you mean -- at a glance timing references? you can notate any time signature you'd like based on the chart -- the chart itself is only mere reference for simplifying a taxing process.
people that step edit typically work in hi-res mode for detailed production sequences. if you're working in 8th, 16th or whatever, the chart still works, but it's easier to step edit prodgram because of less notes used per measure. The chart provides maximum ppqn (HIRES), but you can use 1—8 per measure or 1—16...etc and set the swing on or off to whatever percentages feel comfortable.
feel free to include a visual reference in your explanation... again, the chart is only for cats like me that like to get into complex programming. It helps out a lot.
